Infineon ICL5101 Resonant Controller IC with 650V High-Side Driver Now at Mouser

April 13, 2015 - Mouser Electronics, Inc., the global authorized distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, is now stocking the ICL5101 LED Resonant Controller IC from Infineon Technologies. Integrating a half-bridge controller with a Power Factor Correction (PFC) stage in a single package, the ICL5101 extends Infineon's existing portfolio of lighting control ICs to address lighting systems in the range of 40Watts to 300Watts. The high level of integration ensures a low count of external components, enabling small form factor designs that are ideal for compact power supplies in lighting applications such as an LED driver.

The Infineon ICL5101 LED Resonant Controller IC, available from Mouser Electronics, includes both a half-bridge controller and a PFC stage. The PFC stage operates in CrCM and DCM mode, allowing LED lighting to be dimmed from 100 percent down to an extremely low 0.1 percent of its nominal power load without audible noise. The half-bridge resonant stage provides high- and low-side gate drive functionality for discrete MOSFETs rated up to 650V, and features a self-adaptive dead time control of the half-bridge driver from 500ns to 1.0µs. Other features of the resonant half bridge controller include improved operation control in magnetic saturation during start-up, and advanced error detection.

The Infineon ICL5101 LED Resonant Controller provides an ultra-fast time-to-light of less than 200ms under any conditions, and a high efficiency of up to 94 percent. The device is extremely stable over line voltage variations, and is equipped with a comprehensive set of protection features including external over temperature protection, overload protection, short circuit protection, and capacitive load protection to increase system safety. All operation parameters of the IC, including protection features, are adjustable by using external resistors, making this chip an ideal choice for reliable systems that are easy to design by using approximately 25 percent fewer components compared to similar solutions which require separate PFC and resonant ICs.

The ICL5101 LED Resonant Controller supports outdoor use by an extended junction temperature ranging from -40°C to 125°C, and is available through Mouser Electronics in a compact, PG-DSO-16-pin package. The device is targeted toward a variety of lighting applications, including Indoor/outdoor high-power LED lighting; high-bay/low-bay lighting; street lighting; parking garages and area lighting; and office/shop lighting.
